A Smile. A Hug. A Better Day.

A Note from a Friend

By Jeff Nursey — The Miracle Man

Have you ever noticed that some people simply make you feel better?

Maybe it wasn’t because they bought you something. Maybe it wasn’t because they solved your problems. Maybe it was simply because they looked you in the eye, smiled, and gave you a hug.

And for just a moment, you felt like everything was going to be okay.

The Simple Power of a Smile

Research suggests that a genuine smile can help slow your heart rate, reduce stress, and allow your body to relax.

Imagine that.

One simple smile.

No prescription.
No co-pay.
No insurance required.

And here’s the beautiful part: a smile doesn’t just bless the person wearing it. It blesses the person receiving it.

Sometimes a smile says:

  • I see you.

  • I’m glad you’re here.

  • You matter.

Without saying a single word, a smile can hug someone’s heart.

Then Comes the Hug

While traveling through Spain, I learned something that really touched me. People often end emails and text messages with the word abrazos.

It simply means:

Hugs.

When friends meet, they don’t just wave from across the room. They embrace—first one side, then the other. It’s a warm reminder that people need people.

Somewhere along the way, many of us have become hesitant. We’re comfortable sending texts, sharing emojis, and clicking the “Like” button. But sometimes we forget the incredible power of real human connection.

Science tells us that hugs can release oxytocin, often called the “connection hormone.” It is associated with feelings of trust, closeness, and emotional well-being.

Maybe that’s one reason a hug feels so good.

Maybe God designed us that way.

The World Needs More Human Kindness

We’re living in a world filled with stress. People are carrying burdens we know nothing about.

Some are fighting cancer.
Some are grieving.
Some are worried about paying their bills.
Some simply need someone to notice them.

Maybe today, you could be that someone.

  • Smile at the cashier.

  • Shake someone’s hand with sincerity.

  • Tell a coworker they did a great job.

  • Call your parents.

  • Tell your spouse you love them.

  • Give your grandchild an extra hug.

  • Look someone in the eye and really listen.

Kindness is contagious. And unlike many things in life, it is absolutely free.

My Challenge to You

Today:

Smile more.
Laugh more.
Hug more.
Encourage more.
Forgive more.
Love more.

Because you never know—the person you smile at today may have been praying for someone, anyone, to remind them that life is still beautiful.

At TNYMB, we often say:

Change Your Frequency. Change Your Life.

Maybe changing your frequency begins with something much simpler than we imagine:

A smile.
A hug.
A kind word.

Those three things may not solve every problem, but they might change someone’s day. And sometimes, changing someone’s day is the first step toward changing their life.

Daily Decisions Determine Destiny.

Go make someone’s day.

Abrazos, my friend.
