What Every Horse Owner Should Know About EMF Exposure

By Jeff Nursey

“Horses notice more, feel more, and often react to things we don’t even see. That sensitivity makes them vulnerable to modern environmental stressors—especially EMFs.”Rhonda Dretel

Rhonda Dretel has spent decades working closely with horses, and she’s learned something important: our equine companions are incredibly sensitive creatures. That heightened sensitivity, while a gift, also makes them more vulnerable to modern environmental stressors—particularly something most of us can’t see or touch: electromagnetic fields, or EMFs.

If you care about your horse’s health, performance, and emotional well-being, understanding EMF exposure and taking steps to protect your horses is essential.

What Are EMFs?

EMFs—short for electromagnetic fields—are invisible energy waves produced by electrical devices. They include magnetic fields, electric fields, and microwave radiation. Essentially, any device that runs on electricity or communicates wirelessly produces EMFs.

Common sources near your barn:

  • Wi-Fi routers and smart home devices

  • Cell phones and tablets

  • Microwaves and televisions

  • Smart meters and power lines

  • Cell towers

Callout: Horses are far more sensitive than humans. Constant exposure may disrupt digestion, sleep, behavior, and fertility.

EMFs and Stress in Horses

Horses experience stress from travel, competitions, training, and social interactions. According to Rhonda, there’s more than meets the eye—they are also affected by invisible energy, including EMFs from everyday devices.

In today’s hyper-connected world, EMF levels are higher than ever, contributing to stress-related issues such as ulcers, colic, and autoimmune problems. While formal research is limited, experience shows reducing EMF exposure can positively impact a horse’s health, behavior, and performance.

How to Reduce EMF Exposure

Even if you can’t control all EMFs in your neighborhood, you can minimize exposure in your barn and riding areas:

1. Check Smart Meters and Routers

  • Smart meters emit constant radiation. If mounted near stalls, horses may be exposed 24/7.

  • Consider relocating or shielding them. Keep Wi-Fi routers away from stalls and turn off Wi-Fi at night.

2. Be Aware of Cell Towers and Power Lines

  • High-voltage power lines and cell towers emit strong EMFs. Maintain at least 500 feet distance from horses.

3. Limit Phone Use Around Horses

  • Switch your phone to airplane mode while riding.

  • Encourage other riders to do the same to reduce exposure.

4. Consider Natural EMF Protection

  • Stones like shungite and black tourmaline are known for their protective properties.

  • Orgone energy devices made from rose quartz, copper, and resin can filter negative energy frequencies.

  • TNYMB Miracle Band disks are frequency-infused and offer additional support.

Callout: Combining environmental adjustments with natural EMF protection creates a calmer, healthier space for your horse.

What Research Tells Us

Research specific to horses is limited, but studies on humans and livestock show EMFs can:

  • Alter cellular function

  • Affect hormone balance

  • Disrupt reproductive health

  • Compromise immune response

In 2015, over 190 scientists from 39 countries warned that EMFs are potentially harmful to all life. Livestock studies also show EMFs can affect mineral absorption, immunity, fertility, and overall health.

Protecting Your Horse Is About Awareness

Your horse’s health depends on the environment you provide. Reducing EMF exposure removes hidden stressors and supports:

  • Physical health

  • Emotional balance

  • Optimal performance

“Proactively shielding our horses is an act of care and respect. They give us loyalty, trust, and companionship—don’t they deserve a little protection in return?”Jeff Nursey

✅ Quick Tips Recap

  • Keep smart meters and Wi-Fi routers away from stalls

  • Maintain distance from cell towers and power lines

  • Switch phones to airplane mode during rides

  • Use shungite, black tourmaline, or orgone devices for protection
